Note: I know you can buy a 968 engine (used) for around $4,000 and sometime less, with brain box, engine harness, etc. and do the air filter conversion, wiring modifications, etc. and you will have 245 HP right out of the box. No problem, and that's great. We do them all the time. Problem is- you don't know really how many miles are on these engines, what they have been through, and if they have any existing problems, etc.
The 944S, 944S2, and 968 used engines you will find, typically are not purpose built race engines (at that price) and are without custom built baffled oil pans, oil pick-up modification, etc. Therefore may blow up if used in a "Track Car".
Our "Race Engines" listed above are purpose built Race Engines, and are like new after our build-up, and all of our Race Engines include special oil baffling to oil pan (unlike any other), new style 968 plastic oil scraper, and oil pick-up tube modification.
Having a purpose built engine will give you piece of mind when running at 7000+ RPM around the track!
Also some classes require you use a 8 valve type engine in your race car.
